      Re: Help!!!

This is just a lot of detailed work. You have to basically rebuild detail in certain areas. Small parts can be done with cloning. Overall it takes a lot of time and patience to do something like this well. I would suggest hiring someone with experience in this area.

Think in the range 100$ and up. No way that you'll do it yourself unless you're a retouching expert. Also, the scan itself can be cleaner, as in image needs to be cleaned before scanning.

unfortunately I do not have access to the original picture ...so I am not able to get a better scan. $100.00 and up...WOWZa! I wish there was a simpler solution.

It's a non-trivial amount of work to do that well. I couldn't produce a reasonable result in less than a few hours due to the sheer number of small regions that must be reconstructed in a believable manner.

$100 would be very cheap. That's reasonable for someone who does that as a hobby. The problem is that the labor involved can quickly outpace the perceived value.

              Re: Help!!!

At least four hours of work to get something acceptable, longer for extra detail.

where should I start? the whole left side is ruined? the detail in the hand/arm is gone? what course of action would you take?

I would begin with the smooth skin - easiest part to fix - then move on to the more detailed areas. You will need some artistic skill for this one, short of having a similar photo that you can copy and paste in areas to improve the detail.

This is a very old picture of the great great grandmother of a friend of mine who wanted me to see if I could possibly bring out the features of her face. I think I have done a fairly good job, but I am having a problem with the mouth, the spots in her face and the uneven coloration. I think the color...
