keypad shortcut to photoshop 7.o contrast

Hello,
is there a keypad shortcut to access the brightness contrast adjustment in photoshop 7.0; or a general way to set up any shortcut?
I've heard that people use actions. Is this the only way. And if actions is the only way to set up, is there a way to set up actions to stop at the adjustment menue?
I've tried to set it up, but actions seems to only allow me to stop the action after the adjustment has been made. I would like to set it up to run on a function key and then stop when the adjustment sliders pop up so that I can perform my adjustment manually and individually.

I'd really recommend avoiding the use of Brightness/Contrast and using Levels (cmd/ctrl-L) or Curves (cmd/ctrl-M) instead.

If I understood correctly what you're trying to do (sounds like make an automatic adjustment in contrast and brightness to a batch of images) you could set up an action to run curves or levels with the Auto feature on either. Read your manual or online instructions on how to set that up for the look you want depending on your output, etc.

yes there is!

Usually all you have to do to edit an action that you previously recorded by is to click the modal icon on in the Action palette. It is the blank column directly to the left of the Action Palette State's in List mode. After toggling the modal icon on when you now run the action, that particular menu's dialog box will open for you.

However, if in the future you want to start your recording off where the menu will always open upon the run of your action, then use the Action palettes flyout menu to select "Insert Menu Command" prior to selecting the desired menu command. Then Stop Recording. When you play the Action that command's dialog box will open for you.

Oh I totally agree in using the non-linear tools for color correction as oppossed to the linear tool of Brightness & Contrast, I was just "generically" addressing his query of playing an action but having a settings dialog box open to change on the fly while the Action is running. One instance where using Brightness Adjustment would be a valid choice would be in the "screening back" of an image to ghost it out so it doesn't compete with another element on top of it, say for an ad that needs dark text to show up or possibly an upper product image in normal contrast for emphasis of the subject. But of course this screening back technique can be applied using the black output slider in Levels or raising the y axis of shadow point on the Curves graph. Haven't been here in so long, I had to re-register! Take care, Ed!
