  • Your style or no style?

    Hi
I would like to hear your input on this "should a retoucher have a style?". I mean is the retoucher one that mimics the work of the photographer and does what he dosnt have the time or skills to, or does he add his own style to the pictures?
Ofcause the retoucher needs to show that he is not retouching wedings, if he whants high end fashion clients. But im talking about personal style.

If you know of any Pro, that have their own style of retouching, i would really like a link or 2

Looking forward to a good diskusion about this

If we are talking fixing images I would say no to style yes to technique. Style suggests you can tell by the end result but the end result should look like the image was untouched (not of course always possible).

If it is glamour retouch work for example then yes some do have a style but often it depends on the clients wishes.

I don't know if one should or shouldn't have a style...

I noticed the work that I have done tends to have a certain look, not because I make a
point to make it so, but because, when it reaches a point in the process that I'm pleased
with, that point tends to have most of the time the same characteristics in terms of
      sharpness, color saturation, etc.

If that is what makes "my style" then, yes I do have a style but more by accident than
      conscious decision.

However I wouldn't go as far as stating "one should have a style".

        style or no style....

I notice that a number of photographers have a "style" but as far as retouch artists go, I think a "style" is determined by the people who hire you. I set up this page of retouching examples:http://www.iphotofx.com/retouch-samples.html In each one I was given some direction. I think that is why I like photo art so much becuase "most" of my clients let me wing it
