  • Using Crop Tool

I'm sure that I hit a wrong key but I can't get rid of the "width" and "height" when cropping. Prior to this, as you know, I was able to crop any way I wanted. How do I get rid of the width and height boxes.

    Hope that this is clear.

    Thanks.

    Re: Using Crop Tool

Funny you mentioned the crop tool...I had to look for it since I always use the rectangle tool then crop...
the width and height boxes appear when you use the crop tool...I think it remembers your last input. Have you pressed the CLEAR button?

    Worked for me.

As Lassa says, hit the Clear button to enable you to change your Crop settings (see pic below).

        Lasa, Gary,

Thanks. That damn thing was driving me nuts. I had it happen before and forgot how to correct it. This time I save the response.

        Thanks again.

          Re: Using Crop Tool

          You're welcome.

From time to time I still get that momentary confusion as to why I can't crop to the size I want. Fortunately it usually just takes a few seconds before I remember to reach for the clear key.

            Re: Using Crop Tool

Unfortunately this is not the first time I asked this question. This problem happens so infrequently, and the mind isn't what it use to be, that I draw a blank. This time I noted the correction and filed it away.

            Thanks again.

How do I set my crop tool (if that's possible?) to automatically crop any size image to 300dpi? Regardless of the dimension of the image that is. Thanks!

              Cropping Without the Crop Tool
              by T Paul
There are a lot of different ways you can crop an image in PhotoShop. Here is one way without even using the crop tool.

              1. Open your image
              2. Select the rectangular marquee tool and make your selection.
              3. Go under the Image menu and select Crop and you’re done.

              crop tool in PE4
              by camner
In PE4, the crop tool has a drop down menu item called "use photo ratio", which I've been using to keep the aspect ratio the same as the original when cropping.

After nicely cropping a bunch of pictures, I realized to my horror that the pixel count and resolution are staying...

              Rule of thirds grid.

Can someone tell me how to stop the rule of thirds grid coming up as default in the CS5 crop window. I find it an annoying visual distraction.

              command grayed out
              by memphishooter
In PS CC, I brought up an image to crop, but the crop command was grayed out. What makes that happen? How to remedy? Thanks!
