  • Missing Pieces

Sometimes the only way to repair a photo that has missing pieces, is to "borrow" from another photograph. I keep a folder of every good photo I come across, to use for "parts". Many of the older photos have people in similar poses, and they can come in handy if you need to replace something such as hands, feet, ears, etc.

Thanks for that fantastic tip - restoring photos with missing pieces always intimidates me, but I think this will help a lot!

They thought grave robbing had disappeared with Burke & Hare. But I have used the Frankenstein approach myself on many occasions.

Wondering how others keep there photos organized ????
          Off the computer

When I am working on the computer I use the method K Eismand recommended in her PS REst and Retouch book ie. a folder for each project and within that a folder for scan, WIP, and Final.
          Then I have separate...

Help Recomposing Photograph - Opinions Needed
          by blue dog
Here's an original and revised photo. The issue with the original is that the two photos on the desk are the girl's parents and the photos are long lost.

I felt a recomposition was in order to bring the girls and the photos 'together'. What do you think?

          Also looking...

          Photographing street vendor booths
          by plugsnpixels
Today I went to a street fair in a small town here in California and among my casual snapshooting of crowd scenes and such took a quick photo of an interesting metal craft vendor booth from the center of the street. The vendor immediately held up a "No Photos" sign (which seemed to be on the...

          photo vandalism

This is from a post I made in another thread.
Recently I was reading an article in a local paper about a scrapbooking shop which had just opened and was horrified when the owner talked about people cutting up "old photos of ancestors" to make attractive scrapbooking pages. I wanted...

          Retouching / Restoring vs. Recreating
          by chiquitita
I have noticed a trend on this site where some retouchers/restorers like to recreate missing information in a damaged photo. I thought I would start a thread to hear the members' thoughts on this subject.

Personally, beyond cloning a few objects, I like to leave the photograph as close...
