Also you don't have to clone at 100% opacity. Try cloning with the tool set to 5-10% and build up slowly, that way you can control how much of the original texture you want to show through.
By always working on a separate layer you can also adjust layer opacity to further refine things.

Don't forget you cane use clone (and many of the other tools) set to a specific mode. Eg. You can clone using colour or luminosity etc. That way you can keep the existing texture.Leave a comment:

If you have PS7 or later, look into using the Healing Brush instead. It works kind of like the clone tool, but retains texture.

The Dredded Clone Tool
Ok, now I've heard the dredded cloning tool (PS CS2) mentioned quite a bit. The reason why I say dredded is because I can't get the hang of it...Apparently you can clone on nice skin - soft, clean, but still with pores showing in other words natural. I'm kind of getting over the flat blurred skin tone and want to step up to the more natural look. I've had a good look around (that is, google etc) but the only tutorials and tips that I can find talk about removing and adding objects/people etc...Can anyone direct me to some info on how to correctly use the good old clone tool effectively for beautification and glamourisation?

I want to remove the furniture bottom left in this image but when I use the clone tool the area is really patchy. How can I overcome this?

Since working with the clone stamp tool at less than 100% opacity is blurring, I am wondering if cloning with the clone stamp tool at full opacity, but with a low flow is also a form of blurring? Is this a bad practice? I sometimes do this to smooth out transitions in wrinkled clothes when the transitions...03-07-2011, 09:36 PM -
The problem with 'smudging' with the clone tool is caused by cloning from an area just set down by the clone tool. This causes a repeating pattern. It can be very obvious, as in a noticable feature or flaw repeating, or more subtle, as in the grain looking 'unnatural' since it doesn't match and is made...05-20-2002, 12:24 AM

When I select the clone tool option I am trying to clone Copy something from another part of the picture knowing where this is from the little cross that indicates where the clone is being taken from, however instead of an actually copy it is giving me a color shade as if were a paint color I was trying...09-19-2009, 07:10 PM

I have a little but annoying problem.
The sampling crosshairs from the clone stamp tool & the healing brush just disappeared. That means I cannot see where I am sampling from when using these tools.
