  • How to get this clean and simple style?

    Hello fellow retouchers,

Can someone give me some tips and advice on how to get a clean and simple style photo like the one attached? The photo comes from the follow link, and the photographer even has a video documenting the shoot. Any help is appreciated.

I'm a little confused on what information you are looking for? The video pretty well shows how he did the shoot, he used higher shutter speeds to control how dark the background and sky are and you can see the positioning of the lights. The model appeared to have very good skin to start with looking at the video.

I am looking for some tips on what post processing work was done to those pictures to get a consistent style. Any ideas?

After watching the video and his setup I'd say the majority of it was done in camera and having a very good understanding of lighting and exposure. For me it's hard to tell what processing was done, maybe processed in a raw editor, curves adjustment for contrast and color maybe some sharpening, looks like there might be a little vignetting on the bottom corners. I think most of his style is done during capture and not after.

I agree with the others, this is basic photography skills. If you're outdoors, just take a reading with natural light. If you add 1 stop of light with your strobes and set your camera at the same reading you measure with the strobes on, the background (sky) will be 1 stop darker. In the studio you just measure the background in relation with your main subject.

Sometimes a good photograph is just a good photograph.

Impossible, there was no such thing as a good photo before photoshop!

but yea, just a good photo to start with. Photoshop, as much as we want it to, doesn't turn a bad photo into a good one. Better sure.. but better isn't good.

A little more time setting up shots equals a lot less time at the computer.
