  • [photoshop] Removing face shadow

    Hello everybody,

    I am not able to remove shadow from the girl's face on this photo (http://img403.imageshack.us/my.php?image=marykh8.jpg). Can you help me and write what I have to do to remove shadow?

    Thanks in advance

    booboo,
    It appears the highlights on her face are have very high values. Using a curves adjustment layer may not yield the best results.

    I would approach it with the intent of simply painting in the proper colors. You can find some tutorials right here on RetouchPro, as well as on the Web.

    The very basics are:
    - always paint an a new layer;
    - always use a soft (v low hardness) brush, with very low opacity setting. This allows you to add color very slowly;
    - always sample colors from the same face, so they blend naturally;

    Best of luck with it.

      well i took out the shadow by using the patch tool in destination mode instead of source and patching with the parts near the light and then some cloning...
      the resoult is in attachments and for the original size one, here it is...

          I wonder if this method using match color will work on faces.

                Re: [photoshop] Removing face shadow

                Started by selecting the shadowed areas in quick mask mode, feathered the selection and made an alpha channel. With the selection active I used numerous channel blends in various modes and curves, trying to match the luminosity. Once close, I used the clone and healing tools to blend and then overall curves for contrast.

                Gotta be an easier way ...?

                  Re: [photoshop] Removing face shadow

                  Since the neck and body supported it, I went for a high contrast look on the face and hair.
                  Used only layers. Copied the base layer, switched the layer to screen blending mode, applied a black mask, used the magic wand to select the shadows and painted white into the mask. Applied gaussian blur to blend in. One layer was not enough, so I duplicated the adjustment layer and fine tuned using opacity. Merged the layers into a new layer and used the healing and stamp tool to remove edges. Lastly a little eyedropper and brush + gaussian blur, on an empty layer set to soft light, to adjust shadows.

                            If you don't want shadows on the face tell the model to not stand under a tree.
