  • Who on earth is responsible for Annie Liebowitz

Her retouching these days I mean. Once again, nice shooting, terrible cheesy, insensitive retouching. http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.c...ve-it-out.html

Halo's, airbrushed fuzz, exposure inconsistencies. It looks like its been through two processes the base work which looks ok, and them some compositor has just tanked it.

Speaking of whom, "Photographer Annie Leibovitz pawns her life's work for a £10m loan to pay her mortgage."

…really. Not just a complete lack of taste and judgment in choosing retouchers, and a resulting lack of crafstmanship - yes the plate of spaghetti incident one, I hadn't seen that in while thanks for the reminder.

Regardless of who made the retouch, what i find most amazing is that one would assume that at some point she herself must have approved the retouch.

Unless she doesnt care enough about her picture to bother looking closely?

Sure small errors can slip through... but these are not small things. Its almost a bit like someone just couldn't give a rodents behind about it. And that is worse =(

What I've seen is that most photographers at her level, with huge output try to put their own collection of retouchers together, this is done for economic reasons mainly - and its usually managed by a "friend" - they then still take their best stuff to …somewhere. Which pisses everyone off

Annie makes millions more than I do to be sure, but my opinion is she has done the photographic equivalent of "jumping the shark" in her photography and composites. I did like the Queen Elizabeth II images though.

Photographers have enormous overheads, of which retouching is only one- its a hugely competitive area, so its not an peachy as it seems. Deadlines can be crippling and unrealistic. Its something you have to be vocated for

I thought Box was doing her work?

Re: Who on earth is responsible for Annie Liebowit

Yes, um..... Box was doing pretty much all her work, but, that may have changed. I heard that she was not too happy about the puff piece/promo article in The New Yorker about Box/Pascal that told the layman that her pictures are heavily composited and retouched, so maybe there was a falling out. Also, her finances are crumbling in public - as mentioned above, she just pawned the rights to all her work for a large sum http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/24/ar...%20shop&st=cse and is being sued by a lighting company and someone else, so maybe Pascal is waiting for a check, too.
I just looked at a book of hers that was supposed to tell me how she did things http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/14/bo...ibovitz&st=cse , and there was no mention at all about retouching, so, hey, screw her. Not only does she show us no respect, but, I'll bet, she gets it for free or cheap. Jumped the Shark, indeed.

"I'll bet, she gets it for free or cheap" tell me about it, Ive had some incredible piss take offers for work from Photographers in the last few weeks. To some of them its apparently just button pushing that they are paying for. As always, its a bad idea for them to get too distant from the people who craft their work, this is why some of them seem to have absolutely no idea of the physical work involved. This attitude will hopefully have consequences in the end. Most people who are coming through now are doing their OWN post, or at least trying to - at least with this generation they have some clue.

I suspect an eager assistant, of which she has a never ending supply, who said, "hey, I know photoshop!".
