Moo... try making a selection of the subject then adding a hue saturation adjustment layer. Add red.

moo, yes, to me it looks like smudging and/or airbrushing too, plus some dodging and burning...

          Hi Moo,

There is made use of some different things. For instance the varations in photoshop to make the colour more yellowish. There is been made use of high pass filter to get some details out stronger and airbrush and surface blur technique to soften the skin/make it more cartoonish (illustrated).

These kind of art is doable when use alot of layers and time to get these result. Maybe if you can give a photo to work on then it i can look what i come up for you.

This isn't a technique I use much, so I'm not saying this is good, just putting it up for you to see if it's heading in the right direction for your own explorations.

Smudge tool set to Normal ~30% strength to plasticize skin
dodge and burn tools set to midtones to heighten contrast
slight surface blur for further plasticity
high radius USM for further contrast
              Vibrance for color

I tried to use the photo. It is allways hard to work on lower resolution. Your photo contained a guy with less details then the orignal photo i think because of the age difference. The orignal photo the guy have more wrinkels so is easier to smudge. Your boy is more smoother.

What i tried to do is to airbrush the person. Bring out more details with high pass filter. Then i tried to put more sharphening in the beard. And colour change the photo to more yellowish cast. Next to some gaussian blur layer and noise layer to smoothen out some skin. I also gave a low opacity photocopy detail to the photo to make it more cartonish/illustrated.

Hope it comes a bit close for you.

                  Re: Miami Kaos effect

here is a quick attempt by me (not perfect by any stretch of the imagination)
for speed i used topaz adjust and then smudged
not a ideal combination but as been mentioned small sized image makes for harder work

moo here is a couple of tuts you might find interesting

                  wet skin

                  and cspringer's illustrated look

you might need to dig around for any more info and some examples

As i said earlier i cheated and used topaz adjust's neutralizer setting ( there is a trial period on this plug in ) and got the result shown below (i tried other ways but they didnt work for me on this image cspringers contrast mask action is usually good or usm/high pass or if you are above ps7 try shadow/ hightlight filter)

I then smudged with a brush set at 20 opacity ( using noise reduction software can reduce the need/amount of smudging needed )

a bit of dodging the highlights then

tweek the colours for taste i warmed the colour up on this one

the main part was cspringers illustration technique and here is a link with a bit more explanation

I must be really bad, cause all i get is like a water painting look with the smudge tool.

                          Will keep trying.

                          Thx

Palms1 tried again this morning and this was the result. One of the main problems i see is the smudge on the facial hair, and then some more parts. The original pic is this one:

                                Hello Friends,

I’m back with another request. How do we actually get the blood effect as in the following pix?

I’ve googled and managed to download few blood brushes but can’t get them to give this effect. This looks so cool. Any tip...

                                Hello Everybody,
I found the dragan effect to be great using in portraits to give it a nice antique and mysterious effect. I've attached my try. Though the pic is small, it gives an idea about the effect. Please give your opinions. Thanks!...

I'm working on some kids toys at the moment and the client would like some 'sparkle' flaring off some of the shiny stuff. Anyone have a good source of ready made star shaped bursts that will add a bit of bling to the pic. Either a layer or B/W shape preferred! And yes, I am being lazy but I've got heaps...
