  • Your favorite retouching job

to go along with Doug's Thread, (your single most dreaded retouch) I thought it'd be interesting to see what people's favorite kind of jobs are. my fave is something with a bit of discoloring and a few little easy to clone out damage spots. it's a pretty quick and easy job, but the result looks really impressive to people.

I'm with you David. I like the ones that look the most impressive with the least amount of work....

      My favorite?

Makes no diference about the amount or type of work, because I am getting paid for all that I do.

What counts is watching the reaction of the customer when you hand them the "new" print and they are overwhelmed with what I have done. The first time I had a customer break out in tears because now she could see that long lost person.......

I like the jobs that have to use all the colour spaces(cmyk, rgb, lab). Also the ones I have to use "false profiles" for. Channel blending is what I like. Going hand in hand with false profiles, for quick corrections. See.......As fast I get into a situation.....Is as fast as I want to get out of one. I like fast things.......Fast cars,Fast food,Fast woman......

Same answer as the other thread...rebuilding a face! I dread it...and it's very hard...but if you succeed, the look on the person's "face" (haha) when you show them the repaired photo is priceless! It's like magic...a photo they thought would be impossible to fix comes back to life.

Same as Greg, faces, especially since that is usually the most critical part of the photo.
I also enjoy bringing extremely faded images back to life. It's very easy and makes such a dramatic improvement.

                Hi everyone!

...now I know for sure....there is definitely a masochist streak in me!

As long as it isn't moiré.... the more 'difficult' or even 'impossible' a job seems to be.....the more I like it !
                Mind you...that doesn't mean that I always achieve the wished-for results....but...boy...am I happy when I do!!!!!

Mine would have a personal touch. Probably my favorite was an old photo of my mother's side of the family. There were about 20 people in it (almost all are now deceased), and parts were faded much worse than others. The entire photo left something to be desired (bright sunlight and heavy shade), and after I was able to bring out the tonal qualities, it gave me a real feeling of satisfaction. It took me back to the time when I was a kid.

I'd have to say one of those really difficult ones that you hate while you're doing it. But if you achieve a good result it's very satisfying.
