  • How to create a credible fake background?

I took this picture from this ceramic piece. I don't like the background (as you can see, my photographic equipement is very poor!) so I want to change it for a neutral background. But it looks fake...

How can I create a fake background that looks credible?

Perhaps the background is to even, try giving it a lighter to darker gradient?

      Thanks! It's getting better!

I used a gradient as you said, and I added a little bit of noise... I don't think you can see it in the small file.

Is the shadow believable? How can I improve it?

Is it a decent image for the ceramic artist's portfolio?

      Thanks again!

        I agree with Mike.
Also try a subtle texture on a 50% gray layer and give it lots of perspective (to match)

        --shift studio.

          yes, looking better!

Also the texture I was mentioning you could use the filter emboss before the perspective transform to add depth.

Could you explain that about the 50% gray layer and the texture?

here is a screencast that shows the ideas (but needs much tweaking)

              http://www.screencast.com/t/cyVr0MdHj

put the texture below the ceramic piece.

              Hope this helps

A grounding front shadow and a casting shadow might help some also..

                        I'm glad it was helpful.

Yes, believable shadows are also very important in composite work.
And focus too - I think the masking on the back of the bowl (top left) should be softer.

@pelez - thanks for the kind words.

I like the natural texture cloth that was there originally.

                            Hi,

like to know how to make a realistic shiny black floor as show in the sample pic attached. there is a slight grad, lighter at the back.

The Background is a very subtile grad slightly darker at the top. (only the feet/floor shown here.

                            can anyone...

                            Hello
I took a picture of my son and have removed the background. Now I am placing a studio background in it. But the problem is that my son is sitting in the photo. How do I show that the half of the background is on the back and on half of it he is sitting.
I can put the shadow under...

                            hi all,

i have a question regarding the full-body-length backgrounds in

how do you think they are done? i guess he started each from a studio-backdrop picture, then brightness/color-adjusted them and added some...

                            Hi,

I'm new here - I've been lurking and learning for a while in this great forum. I could use some advice with an image I'm working on.

I've already done major repair work on this image, but I'm stuck with the background:

What can I do to the background...

Hey guys, my first time posting on this forum.
I've messed around with this image for quite some time and I have no where else to turn to.

So originally this image was in a portrait layout and I want to switch it to landscape. So I've copied and pasted to extend the background....
