Hi guys,
I know Dangin's techniques have been discussed here many times (though without any obvious result), so I won't exactly bother you with the question how to achieve such a look (because there are always so many variables), but I want to ask where to start with this particular technique and what similiar images are out there to compare to.

Yeah I agree with the other reply- probably solar curves
also maybe some blending of channels? split tone? then masked out..

I'm sorry. It doesn't do a thing for me. If any one of us would post such an image we would be castigated. Emperor Dangin has no clothes.

I have to agree with KTG - but only up to a point.

The truth is (in my opionion) that Dangin has proven - beyond any doubt - that he posesses a truly unique and quite awesome (in the true sense of the word... look it up) talent, and his skills as a 'traditional' retoucher really are beyond critique.

However, KTG is absolutely right about this image, and the set from which it is drawn. I personally believe that this grotesque and 'myspace-photoshop-wizard' treatment was applied because the raw image was such a failure as a multimillion-dollar global campaign image that he had to resort to the most brutal of veiling techniques to create something that would actually sell product.

Please check out the before / after example and you'll see exactly what I mean.

I for one think it's a very cool look for the image. I understand, or at least I believe I do, KTG and Stevek's disdain for this look, but I feel this is from a retoucher's standpoint, which is different from the way most of the audience's perspectives come from. I don't know if "myspace photoshop wizardry" is fair, as there is extensive work done with these images and although you may disprove of the look, I think it was very well executed and made the images into something far better than the original photographs.

I've also had a couple beers.. but whatevr.. I dig it! Anyone else approve of the treatment? disagree?

You are all missing the point! the handbag looks great!

A little surprised about carrying the curve into the skin tones too, but I like the overall look, very ahemm 'dynamic'.
