  • Color picker/RGB values question

I have bee messing around alot with the color picker, color sampler tool and Info palette lately. Now, for example if I have a very, very dull red which can be something like R=98 G=50 B=45, photoshop would categorize this as a red since the R value is the highest correct? I am asking this because when I use a tool such as Hue/Saturation where you target Reds,Green, Blues, etc. and I want to change Reds for example, this tool will affect any color that has a dominant R value only correct? Same for blue or green no? Is this how PS works in terms of picking and altering certain colors?

Yes, a higher proportion of a color would indicate, in your example, it is ‘red’ (which is just word). But numbers alone don’t define color appearance. R=98 G=50 B=45 is a different color in sRGB than Adobe RGB than ProPhoto (but again, it is red, or more red then green and blue).

Yes Andrew I do remember us conversing about how one set of values in one RGB space will show up as something different in another colorspace. But regardless of which RGB space you are in, the dominant value tells you which color it is right? Just to make sure I get this.

...Not only dominant, you should couple your selection with limits & feathering adjustments. Here more on HSL

              Hi everyone,

I am sure most of you browsed a lot about how to color correct the image. Curves , levels or ACR. I stick to the curves at the moment and use color sampler tool. get the readings. Either do it on RGB or CMYK. How many samples you place on the image? How do you choose to where...

              Describing a color
              by agrahamt
I am composing a FAQ to accompany a historical map for which I've added water color as an overlay. The color I've chosen created is rather arbitrary, but I am curious how to describe the color effectively in language. The overlay color is a shade of cyan, but it is 33% transparent with a yellowish...

              Question on colorizing
              by vinniesworld
What's the best and most effective way to colorize pure white. The only way that I've came up with is to use multiply mode on the color layer.
