  • How to get this "whitish - weightless" look?

    Hi! 1rst post here

Looking at pictures from this retoucher (who I think is amazing btw)

I was wondering how he gets this "weightless effect", i mean everything seems light, i don't know how to explain the atmosphere looks a bit weird but evertything seems to float ... I know it's also about the fact that there's nobody in it but there's more (less vibrance? white layer? FYI for the NY project he was working wi an X100 and no tripod...)

my question is what do you think he uses in photoshop to get those whitsh images of the beach at the end? does it also have to do with the weather on the particular day he takes his pictures?

what could be his adjustements? how would you do to get this kind of atmosphere in your picture?

sorry for being not so clear :P

    thank you!

I think what you are seeing is low saturation of color in the daylight shots making the images seem a little weightless because there isn't any contrast or strong color to weigh the images down and also the overcast weather.

There also seems to be a little color treatment toward cyan shadows and warm highlights.

I know him for a few yrs now, amazing guy. He's one of the best busiest retouchers in France. He started a good 20 years ago, he used to work on prints... Then he switched little by little on retouching. He is just mind blowing with colors.

It is really precise masks done with calculations / luminosity masks / channels etc...
There is really no trick here but tons of experience and great taste.

yeah, relly great taste, everything seem so smooth

I guess the weather conditions also influence the final "render", anyways, I'd die to learn how it does all of his magic
