"remove" blood from a picture

Hi all,

I am attempting to remove the blood from the attached picture as the mother has asked me to try. I am very much a retouching beginner.

Picture 2 is where I am so far by using healing and patch tools.

However I feel there may be a better way to do this, maybe something with selective colour ?

Any advice given would be greatfully received.

I have the original polaroid picture, the attached images are approximately a third of their actual size to allow me to attach them here.

Use the selective color -- remove the red color
Then heal some parts
