Obama Election Night Colour Gradient on B&W Photo

Hello,

I've been a bit perplexed on how this red/blue gradient was so beautifully achieved over a black and white photo of Obama and Biden (no partisan bickering please! ;P)

If anyone could give some pointers how to achieve this effect that would be greatly appreciated!

It looks more like the Red and Blue colours are a result of the optical system being out of alignment on the Overhead projector which may have been exaggerated by the angle of the shot and the screen type?

Easy, create a 50% gray layer on the top of your BG layer, set blending mode to Overlay.
Select blue for foreground, red for background, go to gradient tool, drag from top left to lower right. Done!

You don't really need to fill the layer with 50% gray, however, it comes in handy if you want to do non-destructive D&B on the layer.

I have attached a before & after sampl. IT IS NOT MY WORK, NOT MY PICTURE, I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK. I only did the photoshop part. I got the picture off google image search.
