  • Look of "Laurent Nivalle"

Hi all, I' m deeply impressed about the look of the french photographer Laurent Nivalle, especially his series "LMC2012" (Le Mans): http://500px.com/search?utf8=✓&page=...icense_type=-1

Has anybody an idea, how to achieve this look? I know, he uses only Lightroom ...

    Regards, rikfischer

Okay, since the OP says he uses LR = ACR, I'd suggest he's lightening blacks and shadows, darkening whites, desaturating colors selectively with the color controls, and using the split toning function to add yellow to the highlights. Clarity also seems to be added to some people for the grunge effect.

He seems to be pitching at the 1960/70 film look. His palette is limited and muted and as above there are no true blacks and a slight magenta yellow tone to the images, basically recreating that Kodachrome feel. There is also some treatment specifically for the film look, with graining and aberrations.

I come from a post-processing background not photography so I can't speak to the basics of getting it right in camera.

His first win was finding the right setting/location with the right props.

Here's my hack attempt, using mainly curves shifts and colour balance adjustment layers. With care and attention and masking I'm sure you could do a better job than my effort.

Hi Mike, thanks for your post. I think it's the correct direction. Can you attach a screenshot from your layer palette and the color muting, especially of the background?

          My first try from yesterday:

            I saw this post - http://www.behance.net/gallery/Lacoste/722055

It has a bit of info about a particular shoot. Not necessary the one relating to the beginning of this post.

From the shoot above, he said for that shoot : " I used only a Canon TS-E 90. about the colors, I used only photoshop colors filters. No third party plugins."

Embarrassingly I can't locate it, strange as I normally keep all stuff (at least for a limited time). Will have a further look in the coming week and maybe try to recreate what I did if I can't (and can remember).
