  • Peaks above the clouds

This is an image from "The Garden of the Gods"...how might I realistically take the selected peaks
and insert them above a bank of clouds? Kinda like they are floating in air.

I do have numerous sky/cloud shots to choose from.

I don't know if this is what you meant, but I just put a cloud layer on top of your layer in photoshop and applied a layer mask. Then I painted out the clouds over the mountains. To make that easier I lowered the opacity of the cloud layer some when I was painting the mask.

I've tried that technique Phil...my troubles arise with the blending of the clouds/mist at the base of the peak.

Well, you just have to decide on an "edge" of the cloud, cut it out, and then make some transparency inside and out of the edge.

Just go to Google Images and type in 'mountains in cloud'. Loads of reference!
