  • How do I get this effect?

How do you create the red circles that are filling the empty space in the image attached. I am looking for these sorts of effects for some of my own beauty images. Are there any Photoshop plug-ins I can purchase? If not, how would I go about doing these red circles? Please notice they are not perfect circles and are not illuminated evenly, hence has a lens bukeh effect.

    Thank You
Note: Image attached is not mine and has been attached as sample to get the point across.

    Bacteria???

Well, if that background is black then adding something like what you see o that pic i not hard, sometimes it is not done first place, maybe they added by Photoshop, if not then just try to find a plce with strong big light red or cover it with red modifier or using red gel, you may try to get some lights in background and cover with semi-transparent red paper.

Thanks for the reply, but I am almost certain that is done in post production. The image was probably shot with black background and then they added the red "accents" to it to cover the empty space. My question still stands as what is a good way about doing this in Photoshop?

Have you googled "bokeh backgrounds"? Lotsa stuff out there.

You shoot at lights at nigt, throwing them out of focus.

Take that image, put to screen blending mode, and attach a colorizing layer to it to make it red.

              Presto change-o.

Also, don't froget that it involves masking the subject.

You could probably just paint them. It's a little time consuming, but it doesn't leave you limited to what a plugin could achieve. Try that. Think of what you want. Start with a broad block in using your choice of color palettes. As you can see the temperature shifts a little toward the highlights. It takes a while to render that in. At the end add a bit of noise for good measure. Completely noiseless tends to look fake as it's just too regular. You can do it on a separate layer if you need to scale it to match any that is present in the original image.
