  • Plastic Look

    Hello,

Trying to find tutorials/ideas on how to creat this look:

agonistica.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, agonistica.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

I have found tutorials the combine 3D renderings with photos, but it seems too arbitrary to get to a reasonable level (for multiple images at least).

    Any ideas?

Are you sure that this hasn't been achieved in camera by working with a fx make-up artist?

      Re: Plastic Look

Looks like a clear plastic mask to me. Sure there was plenty of pp but this is my feeling about the image
Look around the eyes the joins have been blended?
Look around the nostril - maybe mask not adhered fully?
Look at the tip of the nose - mask creases?
      Similar lips and chin?

Tony - that's what I thought as well, and there's good evidence you pointed to. Of course it was quite the job to do that full body and achieve at least some level of movement for posing, so it may have been a specialty material that conforms to shapes but can be removed without a very painful process.

I shot an editorial recently where we used liquid latex and sawdust to achieve a more dull but somewhat similar effect. My MUA applied it.

I saw a tutorial on PSD Tuts where they combined Maxon Cinema 4D with Photoshop to achieve that look.

I don't know. It could be both.

If I had to guess it would be a well prepped mu and model, then a lot of post.

BUT the only tutorial I've seen is the 3D composite one (which doesn't look nearly as nice, imho).

Here's another example from a different photog (another super high end shoot, though, so the budget is there to do whatever it takes):

I prefer this shoot over the Naomi C, personally.

What I don't understand is the detail:

            Lips, irrregular/uneven highlights.

Could it be a liquid latex of some sort? I've never seen latex that you couldn't tell it was an outfit (wrinkles, etc.).

            Thanks

(I have seen that 3D tutorial, but the quality is not the same. I suppose it could be if you spent the time, but for so many shots it seems impractical...and I am a 3D specialist).

Anyway, this is the artist in charge of the latex.

There is no mask, you simply adhere latex, then clone out the seems.

Easiest way to do this in photoshop is to simply dodge it by following a referecnce you get when applying posterize combined with curves.

I could have bought the Maxon Cinema 4D as a possibility as posted by Hideall, effect is close IMO - however I know very little about this type of application and how complex and time consuming it may be.

It could be a clear latex liquid or possibly a product similar to what women use to tighten skin. SWMBO used something like this once and gave me the fright of my life - just paint the liquid on and wait for it to dry and form the mask it is highly reflective even when dry and just peels off very simply.

The attachement while not the same type of image or lighting as your posts the effect perhaps getting close and with the correct lighting (plus post) and more 'goop' applied just maybe a contender? Not SWMBO just some so called celebrity on an inane show in the UK. Image taken from This article

Skoobey, your link did not seem to lead anywhere so will reserve comment. Where did you find out the MU artist worked on these images?
