"Colorization" with Steve Caplin

Another show topic inspired by audience participation during our previous show.

On the next RetouchPRO LIVE watch the computer desktop of professional photoillustrator Steve Caplin as he shows us different ways to colorize photos. While Steve will be primarily concentrating on b/w photos, colorization has applications in even the highest-end color retouching.

You can upload images you've had problems colorizing during the show. But better still, why not upload images you've successfully colorized so we can all appreciate them? The upload link will be provided at the start of the show.

After Steve's presentation, we'll open the floor to questions about any Photoshop topic. You can upload images for this as well. Please rename your files to include your name.

Question:
You started with a background blush color as your base. Do you always use the same background blush color as your starting point? For example would you use that under a flash situation, would you use it in a photo taken outside or in a photo from a different era?

You started with a background blush color as your base. Do you always use the same background blush color as your starting point? For example would you use that under a flash situation, would you use it in a photo taken outside or in a photo from a different era?

Yes, I always use the same blush. The first step is to get the colorization to look internally consistent. When it's finished, you can then address such vagaries as lighting and era.
