    RetouchPRO LIVE
    Audience Showcase

And now for something completely different.

On our next RetouchPRO LIVE, our guest artist is...YOU!

Here is your chance to show the world what you've got, where you're at, or how far you've come. And to help your peers and learn what they think in return.

This could be the start of an exciting, new, unique and revolutionary show we schedule regularly. Or it could be a very short, slightly awkward show that we never try again. Either way, you won't want to miss this.

    Here's how it will work:
    • Pick your one image that you want to display. In future shows we might specialize, but for this first show anything goes: retouching, compositing, photo restoration, photo art, straight photography, CGI, graphic design, or anything else. Just make sure it's your own work. WIP is fine, before/afters are optional but appreciated.
    • Rename your file to include your name. johnsmith.psd, jane_doe_WIP.jpg, etc.
    • Upload the file to http://www.retouchpro.com/upload (the access code is "showcase", no quotes). Don't wait until showtime.
    • During the show we'll spend a few minutes looking at each image. I'll read out the relevant comments from the audience, then we'll move on to the next image.
    • After the show I'll delete all the files, none will be stored or shared. However the show will be recorded and uploaded to Youtube.

Everyone is guaranteed to see things they have never seen before.

I submitted the photo 'joeramsey.jpg' after first submitting the same one without renaming it first.

I would just like your candid appraisal of my photo. It was taken in natural light with a Fuji X Pro-1, and retouched in Photoshop. I am an amateur, but am working hard to upgrade my editing skills. This photo represents some of my best work so far, so any pointers you can give me to improve will be greatly appreciated.

Lots of photos uploaded, many of them quite stunning. It might be a longer than normal show. But oddly, not too many people registering, just slightly more than the number uploading images.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear in the email that everyone is welcome, even if they don't upload.

Great show Doug! Really enjoy seeing other Retouchers work and styles. Cool to be able to compare the original and retouched versions. Would enjoy a show like this every now and then. Saturdays afternoons are a perfect time for me, to chill and have time to watch a very enlightening show. Thanks for doing this!

This show is up on Youtube now

We'll be doing this again. You might want to watch if you couldn't attend so you're up on the format.

This was very fun, and the audience seemed to get a lot of value out of it. It got some of the best post-show comments ever.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE 2/7/15 - Audience Showcase

I enjoyed the show and the critiques were informative and at times, polarizing!

Mine was the 'Pumpkin Patch' rose. Just wanted to point out that when the image came up, I was immediately struck by how washed out it looked on screen in comparison to the original. It also appeared less sharp. Any tips for avoiding that in the future?

              Thanks!

I doubt it. The webinar software is not color managed.

Your rose pic had sRGB as the embedded profile, and I have PS set to preserve embedded profiles. However, I did notice it looked a little more saturated when assigned AdobeRGB. Which is your working mode?

                  Hi Vivian,

You should do the photo in like 2000 px so that Doug don't need to fit the photo to the frame. Then you sharpen it up and gives it a color profile.

I noticed that, too, Doug. It is embedded with sRGB but I usually work in AdobeRGB.

It was 4288 by 2848 so it should have been okay. But, adding a little more sharpness when submitting to a webinar is probably a good idea. Thanks!

Hiya folks - Mads Bjerre Henriksen here. I couldn't "attend" the actual live showcase, but just saw on YouTube that some of you had questions for me.
Firstly, it is only one original, the original before picture. Also, I only retouched it, I had nothing to do with shooting the image.
Regarding the skin - I really wanted to bring out her - all natural - freckles and make her skin a bit more dark and "rough", but soft and beautiful at the same time. The skin tone is mainly done with Black & White adjustment layers set to luminosity.
                        I dodged & burned quite a bit!

                        There's a before/after rollover I made of it right here http://fav.me/d8ep1kf

Thanks for the interest in my work!

                          Hi Viaian,
I noticed the same on my image I submitted ( girl sitting on the bomb) it was noticeably less saturated and lighter then the original. I found your image to be lovely. Being this was the first show of this kind, perhaps Doug can give us some insight in to how we might help with this issue. I, myself submitted my images just the day before the show, so was just happy that I was included. Loved seeing everyone's work.

                          Best,
                          Nancy

                            Nancy,

Your images were AdobeRGB already, so that isn't the problem. I suspect it's simply that the webinar software is not color managed.

Thanks for following up on this. I did like your image a lot.
I'll have to play with that b/w adj layer idea.

Our first Audience Showcase show was too lightly attended, but I got several comments that this was the single most valuable show (from any source) they had ever seen.

I can't ignore powerful feedback like that, so we'll give it another shot...

Ok, let's try this one last time (perhaps).

Last month's Audience Showcase got a little awkward. We had lots of uploaded images, which is excellent. We had plenty of people in the audience, also excellent. The trouble was only 5 of the images...
