    RetouchPRO LIVE with Steve Caplin
    Lightroom CC/Lightroom 6

Ah, new Adobe product launch week. So much excitement, so much confusion. And yesterday's launch had more confusion than usual, Adobe can't even decide on the name of the new Lightroom version.

On next Tuesday's RetouchPRO LIVE, Steve Caplin will sort out all the confusion. He'll also answer audience questions about the newest Lightroom version and demonstrate all the new features.

Special emphasis will be given to features that replace or out-perform Photoshop (or Photoshop can't do at all).

This will differ from all the other demos and reviews that will certainly be available in two important ways:
    1. Everything will be presented from a Photoshop user perspective
    2. You will be able to talk back and ask questions during the demonstration

After he finishes his presentation, Steve will help you troubleshoot any Photoshop problems. You can upload photos ahead of time if that helps explain your particular problem. The access code for uploading is "lightroom" and please follow the rules.

    Re: RetouchPRO LIVE 4/28/15 - Lightroom CC / LR6

I uninstalled Lightroom 5 from my Mac (Yosemite) and installed new CC 2015 version via CC app - but it does not work. I can see a landing window for a second and after that it disappears. My CC app sais that Lightroom CC 2015 is installed properly. I also uninstalled it and installed again.

Any Idea? Photoshop & Bridge work without any troubles. Thanks...

Try signing out of the CC manager and signing back in.

Since this announcement was made several days earlier than normal, this is a bump for those used to shorter notice.

              Re: RetouchPRO LIVE 4/28/15 - Lightroom CC / LR6

I'm about half way through the video, very informative.

I do have a couple comments thus far specifically about DNG which is mentioned in the video with respect to Pano and HDR.

First off, a DNG isn't necessary raw data, not like when we convert to DNG from proprietary raw in LR. There are a number of flavors, one being Lossy DNG which produces a smaller file than 'standard' DNG but the data is less 'raw'. See: http://www.cnet.com/news/adobe-offer...-dng-religion/

One can take a JPEG and export it as a DNG in Lightroom. It isn't now raw data! DNG is a container format based on TIFF. Don't assume DNG=raw. There's also Linear DNG. It's 'more raw' than lossy DNG, less so than a DNG converted from raw that is neither variant.

So Pano and HDR in LR6 as seen in the video converts a raw image to Linear DNG and then produces the blend. The Pano is 16-bit Linear DNG.

Thanks for the correction, but that's actually rather disappointing to learn. I was hoping a panorama made from 3 raw files contained the raw data from the 3 files within the DNG, along with the metadata commands that make up the pano. Ditto HDR.

It's as 'raw' as the technology allows. It's a lot more raw than taking multiple rendered images and doing this in Photoshop proper (outside ACR).

                    Re: RetouchPRO LIVE 4/28/15 - Lightroom CC / LR6

Steve sent me the 3 raw files he used for his HDR demonstration. I finally got around to comparing my ancient non-OpenCL machine to his much more recent Mac. The results were a bit anticlimactic.

I did take close to double the time to build the preview, but it was still just 29s vs 16s. Final image for both of us was 8s.

Steve gave permission for me to upload his example files from the show, in case anyone would like to download them to compare times, or just to follow along with his demonstration.

You can download the zipped files here, it's a 50MB file.
