I think just hitting "print screen" will copy it to the clipboard. From there, you should be able to do what you want with it. I'm not positive about the "print screen". It might be Alt+"print screen".
if you have several windows open in your Desktop, but you'd like to capture only one of them, just click on the one you want to take a "shot" of to activate it, then press "Alt+Print Screen". In this way you'll get the "shot" of what you want and not of your whole Desktop.....
So now no one has an excuse to not submit illustrated tutorials
But seriously, folks, I like a program called Fullshot. Bypasses the clipboard and offers many options. There are many other programs out there as well.

You probably already know, but to make a screen shot on a Mac, you have a few options built in:
1. Command+Shift+3 captures the current screen and puts it in a file called "Picture n" where "n" is a consecutive number.
2. Command+Shift+4 gives you a selection crosshairs so you can drag around what you want to capture - the resulting file is called "Picture n" like above.
3. Command+Shift+4 and hold down the control key while dragging around the selection keeps the selection in the clipboard and it can be pasted directly into your favorite program.
Can't let those Win folks get ahead of us hehehehe
To be honest Doug I don't know of a screen capture program for the Mac. Since they improved the one that is part of the operating system, that's all I've used.
Does anyone know how to get a screen capture of the cursor? My screen captures do not include the cursor, and sometimes I would like to include that in an image.
I don't know if this is hardware or software or carbonware, but it's driving me nutz!
I'm in PhotoShop Elements 2 on WindowsXP, do File>Save for Web, hit the print screen button on the keyboard of my laptop and I can capture that screen in all it's glory so I can put it in my PowerPoint...
