How to change a colour photo in black and white?

Simply we can change colour photo into black and white by following these steps in photoshop
• go to image – select mode – grayscale
• go to image – select adjustment – black and white (all image change in black and white originally )
• go to layer menu – select new adjustment layer – black and white (original image remain as it is in separate layer)

Image can be made black and white in many ways in Photoshop. There are several method to make colour photo into black and white. Simply you can go to layer menu – new adjustment layer – black and white. By this method you can get the option of preset, and tint by which you can modify your images in better way.

Personally, I like to change the image mode to Lab Colour, then in the channels click on 'lightness', after that change the image mode to greyscale. I dont know what is happening behind the scenes exactly but the 'lightness' channel gives such a nicer B&W conversion than just converting to Greyscale or desaturating.

Do one of the following:

1. Click the Black & White icon in the Adjustments panel.

2. Choose Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Black & White. In the New Layer dialog box, type a name for the adjustment layer and then click OK.

Photoshop applies a default grayscale conversion.
