Where's the 1270?

I went to Amazon to look at the 1270 (I like to visit often and say "See you soon!") but apparently it's out of stock. Is this a temporary thing I hope? I looked for it elsewhere on the web but all anyone has to offer is the 1280 and 2000. Am I too late? Any thoughts? Suggestions? Consolations?

Price Watch has several listed for $257 up to $305 Just click on printers and then at the bottom where the price ranges are click on brands and then choose Epson. It's a good place to go to find the best prices.

Akj, You might als give PUBLISHING PERFECTION a look. The problem with the 1270 is that once existing stocks are gone, thats all she wrote. Dont give up too easily. There are bound to still be some out there. Tom

Hi Everyone--should have known you would all run to the rescue. I've never heard of any of these companies before--probably why I couldn't find any. Is it safe to order from them?

Doug, I thought about the refurbished one on Epson's site but that scared me a little. What exactly does "refurbished" mean? Maybe at this point I shouldn't be too picky! Just want to make sure it doesn't croak on me and then I'm left with no where to go.

"Refurbished" is one of the ugliest words I've ever heard, but it's really quite nice. A manufacturer gets their own products back occasionally, for many reasons...defective, buyer remorse, whatever. Anyway, they take these and strip them down and build them back up again, to new standard. For all intents and purposes its better than new, since most new products aren't individually tested.

The good news is they're frequently less expensive and have full warrantees. The bad news is they sometimes will have wear-marks on the housings.

I personally wouldn't hesitate a second to buy a refurbished item from a reputable manufacturer (I don't know, but I'll assume there exists somewhere non-manufacturer refurbishers). As a matter of fact, I tried very hard to get a refurbished Expression 800 scanner, but a wholesaler snapped up the entire inventory.

Akj, I swear by and not at PUBLISHING PERFECTION. I have ordered hardware and software from them and never had a problem. They even call you back after about two or three weeks to check how you are getting along. I purchased my Minolta negative scanner thru them and when I had some questions, they called Minolta, WHILE I was on the line and got the answers for me. Tom

AKJ, I agree with Doug about refurbished items. I tried to get my negative scanner that way but the demand exceeded supply. I have purchased refurbished items before and never had any problems with them. Of course I also got a free Parallel cable with my printer, which I guess isnt suppost to happen, so perhaps I just keep lucking out. Tom.

Hi Amanda,

Price Watch and Price Grabber are places that do price comparisons. You actually buy from the company listed as to where you can get it for that price. My husband and I always go to these sites to find the best buys and have never had any problems with the companys listed with them. Most of the time Dave will shop locally to see what the price is and then go on price watch to find it cheaper.

Doug is right about the refurbished too. We have bought refurbished in the past many times to save costs and had no problem. Good luck in your search. Glad to help out.
