  • Buzzing noise in monitor

This is very odd...but when I view certain images or pages with bright colors, my monitor makes a slight buzzing noise. Never noticed it before. It normally makes a very, very low hum when on, but the hum turns to a slight buzz with certain colors and images. Anyone have a clue why this might be happening?

Boy Greg you sure come up with some off the wall problems. Are you sure you really got some sleep lately? Maybe it's your head buzzing from lack of sleep.

Maybe your monitors developed an audible Out of Gamut Warning system.

Sorry Greg, couldn't resist that one.

Remember the scary picture Ed posted...where the ghost pops out at you? I think the ghost is now stuck in the machine!

...Maybe my recent insomia has given me super power hearing...

My tv does that, but only through the amp. Is the buzzing coming from you speakers?

Doug - No, I unplugged the speakers just to make sure. I know I am not hearing things... it is definitely a slight buzzing noise coming from inside. Of course, maybe I am just a naturally paranoid person who think every little noise is a sign of impending doom!

                Margaret,

You don't have Meniere's disease, do you? I don't want to take the thread off topic, but if you do have it, and you want to talk about it, send me an e-mail.

                    Greg,

I'd guess it is a transformer buzz. Usually this is very high pitched and worse when there is a lot of white on the screen.

There isn't much to be done about it. My Hitachi 751 monitor does it on occation, but not all the time. It is painful and bothersome, but any monitor that uses transformers made of stacked metal plates can do it. It is caused by the highfrequency fluctuation in the magnetic field that rattles the loose plates together. The only sure solution is to get a flatscreen... They don't have transformers.

Tim - By "flatscreen" I'm assuming you mean an LCD? (I have a Sony Trinitron) Thanks for the explanation...I always like to know exactly whats going on and you certainly got to the bottom of it! Thanks!

Um.. yes an LCD. I shouldn't use a loose vernacular term like that in the middle of a technical explanation....

                          DVI vs VGA
                          by Quantum3
Hi people, I gifted a VGA LCD screen/monitor to my gf, but it shows too much noise. I'm willing to change it for a DVI screen/monitor. Will the DVI be noiseless?

She also do image retouching and video.

                          Thanks,

                          Got my ViewSonic today
                          by Ed_L
About 2 hours ago, the UPS man showed up with my new ViewSonic monitor. I don't have the answer as to why, but it looks much better than the Sony did, and I saved a more than a few bucks too.

                          Hello,

I've got an issue I've never seen before as a tech/network engineer...

I have a dual monitor setup with an nVidia GTX280 running Windows Vista x64. Originally I had a 21" Gateway HD capable LCD screen as my main and a Samsung 17" flat panel as my 2nd monitor,...

                          Hi guys -
I've been working on these photos for a blog post and am having trouble with my blacks. The photos are only 422x281px in the blog and look fine on my nice calibrated monitor but when we view the blog post on our laptop screen we are seeing a lot of noise in the blacks! I've attached...
