CanoScan FS2710
A friend has offered me his little-used Canoscan FS2710 transparency/neg scanner. Does anyone have any knowledge of these scanners, and, if so, what would be the maximum size (top quality) print i could hope to achieve with it from a perfect Kodachrome transparency? Any other advice/thoughts about the scanner would be appreciated. TIA

Max res according to spec is 2720 ppi x 2720 ppi. That should yield reasonablely good 8 by 10 prints.

How good a quality scanner do you need for scanning B&W negitives and color prints?
I'm using a Umax2200, but I believe that it will probably not be good enough. I got a decent result on it with a print, but I was not too concerned about top notch quality....03-10-2003, 10:51 AM -
I am considering buying a used Epson 4990 scanner. It has nothing with it but the scanner. It is said to work very well and is in good operating condition. The price about $100.

I have found that 300 dpi on my scanner looks bad, so when I need 300, I scan at 600 or 1200 and resize it. 150 or 180 also looks fine. 500 is just as bad as 300. Somewhere between 500 and 600, is where it changes to needing more than one pass. What is going on, here, that lower and higher resolutions...06-30-2008, 11:58 PM

I recently repaired a friends HP 5370C scanner. When testing it I found out it does a much better job than my Microtech scanner (6000 series) The detail and color accuracy is superior.
