A technique I've never heard of before, then I read 2 articles in one day about it.
In the first article, RetouchPRO LIVE Guest Artist Ctein uses Photoshop Stacks in Mean mode to minimize cracks in scans of old photos:

In the second article, Thom Hogan uses a similar technique, though more involved, to eliminate noise from digital photos:

Both rely on auto-align, which is seriously nifty.
