  • How to achieve these colours ?

    Hello everyone !
I'm totally new on this forum.
I will first introduce myself ! I'm a French photographer ! So please, be lenient concerning my English 
If you want to see my job, don't hesitate to look at my facebook page ! https://www.facebook.com/fredericmacieriphotography

I'm following another French photographer called Jean Philippe Lebee.
I really love his photography, especially his colour and tons his is working with.

I will shoot in a flat this evening, and I will love to have that king of "color style".
Is anybody know how to make something like this ?

    Thank you in advance,

All 3 images are different, so it will be 3 different ways to achieve the result. Also output 110% depends on input. You didn't provide your image, how can somebody answer you?

If you need toning just check the Hue.

I get what you're asking. It's not about either of these specific images. You like the style of his work. A couple things stand out to me.

The other photographer picks a different method of creating contrast in the images. The background was definitely deepened in portions to create emphasis. You do this by masking, and it takes some practice. You could deal with background issues without perfect masking skills.

The other thing is that to match this, you may need to color correct your skintones separately. Getting some of these very stylized background palettes ruins skintones or at the very least you can't get that nice level of consistency. The images on your facebook page have skin with far higher contrast than I would suggest in most cases.

There are a lot of details you could improve in terms of the clothing and composition, but I think you would see a pretty significant difference just by improving on these two aspects. Later on I think you should spend some time decomposing images. You'll find it a lot easier to learn if you start by matching just one aspect or one region at a time.

Every image you get to work on has some tonality in it that can be adjusted to artistic advantage. Not every image looks great with a green tint to the whites like in the first image, or a magenta tint in the second one...or a drop in saturation like the third. There are no rules here...only your own visual artistry to make the image visually more appealing to your audience.

I usually use adjustment layers for such tonality changes. I do this because they are clean, clear, dont cover up pixels, and are infinitely adjustable using their mask to create where the effect takes place and how much intensity in every place. Once done...its not set in stone...you can still always change everything even if you have saved the image with all its layers to retain total visual control.

To do this: Go to the layers pallet. Look for the small 1/2 moon icon at the bottom of the layers pallet and click on it. Choose curves. When you do this you get a new layer with a white mask placed on it. If you want to add or subtract brightness anywhere in the image just pull up or pull down on the center of the curve with the RGB channel selected. This allows you to selectively paint on light onto your picture and to control where the lightening is...and how much buy inverting the mask from white to black (use command/control I to invert the mask after selecting it). Then paint on the mask with a soft, 4% low opacity white brush to add in the brightening and where it will be and by how much. Change the brush to black to reverse the effect.

For the color casts in your images above... make another adjustment curves layer. This time change the channel pull down to the green channel. If you want to have your whites go greenish like in your first example... take the top right corner, click on it, and then drag the curve point to the left to add a greenish cast to only the highlights. If you want to have a color cast in the mid tones... make and grab a point in the middle of the curve... or if you only want any color change in the shadows...select and pull the bottom left part of the curve and ONLY the shadows will get that color cast. The cast you create will be a global color cast...do a control I to invert the white mask to black...then paint on the mask with a soft low opacity white brush to paint on the green color cast exactly where you want it artistically. If you over do it...change the brush to black and remove the bad choice in real time. You can get the magenta tone in the second image by pulling down on the center of the green curve to create a magenta (purple-ish cast)... paint it In where ever the artist inside you tells you to make it look kinda funky. Once you have painted it you can always control the overall effect by going to the opacity slider and reducing the effect all the way down to zero or any point your artist tells you is perfect.

In your third image...choose adjustment layer (Hue Saturation). Slide down the saturation deeply...then then you invert the mask and paint...you will be painting not with light, or a color, but with reduced saturation look. Paint where ever you like...however strong you like. Double up on the layer for a 2x effect or use the blending modes to have your artistry blend in differently with the image.

        Good Luck.

Now the artist in you has absolute, complete visual control over how your image should be like. By changing the color casting in each image creatively...you make your images look unique and artistic instead of just pure natural all the time. Dont forget that you can put as many of these layers above your image and make each layer control a different part of the picture in whatever way you artistically like.

        Cheers,
