  • Photoshop: straight line with lasso tool?

    Hi all,
Just recently I luckyly heard about RetouchPRO....unbelieveable!!!
There's one detail I can not follow in this video tutorial, my bad english :
Our guest artist is photoillustrator and author Steve Caplin. Steve solves the Photoshop problems of the audience members using files they have uploaded.Some...

RetouchPRO LIVE - Photoshop Solutions, by Steve Caplin.

Near the end of the tuts (at time 1:04:35), Steve selected the window glass with lasso tool, he probably made lasso tool draw straight line, and I think it's not Polygon Lasso tool.
    I tested myself, not working.
Could anybody please help me out?

Use polygonal for straight line or pen tool.

You can do just that by holding the Option key (PC: Alt key), releasing the mouse button, and continuing to draw your selection. You'll notice that your cursor changes to the Polygonal Lasso tool, and that as you move the mouse, a perfectly straight selection will drag out.

Thanks for the help. Works great! Releasing mouse is important.

Almost as important as reading the manual.

Yeah, I find it in the manual.
You're right, I learned tons of video tuts, but never read the manual.

Its indeed very helpful. But I have a question, isnt it better to use pen tool to create a straight line?

I think pen can do that, but a little slower.

                  by beefhitler
So, I have noticed a lot of product and automobile retouchers use the Pen Tool more vs the Polygon Lasso Tool for making selections/masking etc. But I have also seen a lot of Photo Compositers use the Polygonal Lasso Tool more than any of the other alternatives while selecting sharp edges of an object...

I am struggling to learn the pen tool. I am currently working with a shape layer.

In case it might help, I have created a basic shape using a document 284x284 pixels, with the grid at the default setting. At this stage I have 2 questions....

                  1) How do I show...

                  Pen tool vs. lasso tool?
                  by jeaniesa
In another thread, Mig mentions using the pen tool to create a path. That got me wondering, what is the benefit of using the pen tool to create a path (and then turning it into a selection) over using the lasso tool to create a selection? Or is this another case of using different techniques to get...

Polygon Lasso tool closes by itself
                  by bestremera
My polygon lasso tool closes by itself before I complete the selection. After I make several clicks, the screen blinks and the tool has closed the link at the last point. I'm pretty good with the pen tool but I still want my lasso to work when things just need something simple and easy.
                  How...
