  • Plug-In: It took 5 years but NIK IS DEAD

We all saw this coming from the start of the acquisition by Google, but it’s now official:

“The Nik Collection is free and compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 through 10.10; Windows Vista, 7, 8; and Adobe Photoshop through CC 2015.
We have no plans to update the Collection or add new features over time.”

If your copy of Nik is working now, it won't be for long due to OS changes and the resulting incompatibilities that are the nature of deadware. The good news is, other plug-in and imaging app developers are still going strong and coding for the future.

Well, it was dead under Google, but now that DXO owns NIK, they are planning a new release for sometime this year. We will see what the future brings.

If nothing else, it promises to be interesting.

Still using the collection with MAC Pro 10.10.5 and Photoshop CC 2017.1.1. Works like it always has worked.

Also with Window 10 (latest build) with Photoshop CS5. Also works fine.

Upgraded today to MAC 10.11.6 (El Capitan), with PS CC 19.1.1 (White Lion) and NIK Collection still works.

Why your next Photoshop computer should be a Mac
          by Doug Nelson
I'll say right now I don't own a Mac, and I've never owned a Mac. But my next computer will be a Mac. I was planning on switching the last time I upgraded my computer, but my old computer died on a Friday and I had a deadline the following Monday, so I had to run out and spend my upgrade budget on a...

          BuzzPro for Mac
          by pwitter
Anyone have any idea where I can buy a copy of Buzzpro for Mac? I have a windows version, but doubt whether I can use that password/registration. Wish I had bought it right away.

          New Mac time
          by Repairman
Well my dear old G5 is starting to feel the pace of modern living and I think it's time to upgrade. Seems there is a new black shiny Mac on the horizon which may fit the bill but I was also considering a well spec'd iMac. Having looked at one a few years back I was put off by the highly reflective screen...

Seriously looking at windows over mac
          by underarock
I am curious right now what windows 8 and photoshop will look like. I also am curious about the speed of a dual chip xeon e5 machine and photoshop compared to mountain lion or lion. I see a trend in computing that is moving away from workstations and more towards user friendly "apps". I...
