  • Mail Washer

There is a newer version (beta) of Mail Washer available that will work with Hotmail, and (I think) AOL. If you're not familiar with it, it's a piece of software that allows you to see what kind of mail is waiting on the server before you download it. It's a big help with spam and viruses, by alerting you as to a suspicious piece of mail. You have the option to delete or bounce any mail before downloading. Check out the link for a screenshot, and download link.

There's an even newer version (still beta) at the MailWasher site. The site says it does not yet support AOL.

Good catch Jeanie. I stand corrected. Support for AOL is coming, but is not yet available.

My Sis on AOL reports that the latest version of AOL (is it 8??) does a good job of washing mail, so an AOL version of MailWasher may not be necessary.

          USPS irradiation
          by Doug Nelson
Since 9/11 and the anthrax scare the US Postal Service has taken to irradiating our mail to kill possible malicious germs. I've read of some real problems with this (harm to flash memory cards, unprocessed film, etc.) and also some problems under investigation, including some paper problems.

          Junk Landslide
          by chris h
Its becoming a battle to fight my way through junk mail in order to find the stuff I want to read i.e. orders, payment confirmations and sycophantic fan mail etc. I was wondering how much junk mail site users have to cope with in an average 24 hour period. Lets put aside online services such as Hotmail...

          Mend+ Tool download problem
          by Dan
Richard: Having trouble downloading "Mend+." I see the Unzip program flash briefly, but there isn't anything on the desktop. On the first try, Sherlock found a Mend+ folder tucked away in a Library sub-file. When I tried to open, it turned grey (unopenable) and has since disappeared. ...

          Photoshop 6 Upgrade question
          by DJ Dubovsky
When you upgraded to Photoshop 6, did you just intall it with the previous versions? Or did you uninstall the previous versions? I have 6.04 coming in the mail and I remember having trouble trying to remove 5.0 when I got 5.5. So I have both on the drive but only use 5.5. I would like to get rid...
