  • Deep Paint Inquiry

Has anyone out there had any experience with the program Deep Paint? It is a spendy little number and am wondering if it is worth the bucks before eroding my toy budget, how the learning curve is, is it a stable program in your opinion . I have read as much as I can find about it but would like some further info, Thank you in advance, Tom

I tried the demo. It had alot of neat things but I think I liked the Painter 6 alot better. It was easier to use for me. Not that Deep Paint is not user friendly, because it is pretty much but I was able to do more on the Painter than that one. I suggest you go to this page and download the demo. It gives you 3 months to play around with the full version and then quits after a specified date unless you purchase it. It's certainly worth a try. Like I said I thought it was pretty neat and I liked some of the paint brush effects like thick metal or confetti. There's a little learning curve but if you know Photoshop it shouldn't be that bad.

Dj, Thanks. I usually try to avoid demos because of a couple of bad experiences . I have Painter and was wondering if Deep Paint really offered any major advantages over it. Think I'll probably put that program on the back burner and search some more. I usually dont have any trouble finding turkeys, so when I get another I'll invite all to a literary turkey roast. Tom

Painter and Deep Paint work on fundamentally different principles (at least they used to, it's been 3 years since I played with Painter).

Painter paints. It sounds stupid, but it makes sense. Just as in Photoshop, as you move the brush, it edits the pixels and fundamentally changes the image.

Deep Paint actually uses vectors, just like Illustrator or the PS pen tool. The paint is stroked along these vectors. You can actually edit a paint stroke after it is made by moving these vector lines (though it may not be editable again once you've left the plugin, I don't know).

Anyone more knowledgeable about these programs please feel free to chime in here and help me out and/or correct me.

That was certainly more than I could tell you on the subject. All I could say was that Painter was better for my needs. Thanks for that little tidbit Doug. I never knew that was how they worked. I will have to look into that more in depth.

Tom, I never had any problems with the demo at all but I know what you mean. The reason I hate demos is that if you like it you are left with a desire you usually can't afford at the time. Or at least I can't

Dj, I'm probably just paranoid but I have never had a lot of success with demos. I am thinking that Deep Paint is probably designed for those who have talent and skill--something which is in short supply here. My Thanks to you and Doug for saving me from myself. Tom

              Tom,

Just think what you could be if you had a little talent and skill! Yeah, right!

Ditto Ed! Tom tries to make us believe the same things about his abilities as you do and we all know you both are alot more talented than you let on. You guys can't fool us because we see the results of that talent everytime you post or submit challenges.

It's too late!!! I just electronically shot myself in my virtual foot again and bought a set of plug-ins which have proved to be as unique and useful as a parasitic infection. Oh Lord, will I never learn.... Tom

                        OK Tom
Start a new thread telling all about this new toy. Hey remember you are supporting the cause by buying things.

As for you Ed or should I say "smarty pants", you finally figured out my motivation. Now keep it under your hat. Oh and I will gladly take that loan in small unmarked bills please.

                          Tom,

Don't look at that investment as a bust. Think of it as a tool to motivate you to make another software analysis for your friends.

                          Debbie,

You'll have to take that up with Tom. My lack of ability is only exceeded by my lack of finances. And I'm gonna tell Tom not to give it to you until you answer my question at Input/Output > PS vs scanner; both/and? either/or? I know -- you're probably gonna tell me you didn't see it, eh?

A review is forth coming. At present I am still marveling at its subtile but useless features. Not since an adventure with Garlic flavored wine have I encountered something that made me feel as I do now!!! All the awe, mystery and wonder of a fulminating fungus infection packaged in a neat electronic platform. OH LORD....Will I Never Learn....Tom
