  • Can't save a JPEG in PS CS 5

Running 10.13.6 on a MAC and still having problems with Photoshop CS 5. It will not save a jpeg. I have PS 5.5 and am curious if installing this might correct my problem. Also, it it possible that my PS 5 is corrupt and installing a from a different disc might fix the problem? Right now I have to save as a PS file, then re-open in PS 3 or ELEMENTS to save a JPEG. It's getting quite tiresome! Also, icon previews do not appear on my desktop.

Not save in what way? Is there an error? Need a screen capture to see what's going on specifically.
You can always try resetting preferences, can't hurt.
Try trashing your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings.

(Mac OS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.

This action only affects the items found in the preferences dialog box. Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Photoshop Preferences file, including general display options, file-saving options, performance options, cursor options, transparency options, type options, and options for plug‑ins and scratch disks. Brushes (and lots of other setting) are not affected by the above instructions for deleting preferences. You may wish to make a screen capture of the settings in the Preferences dialog to reset them prior to deleting of this file.

        Did you delete preferences?
Only shows if you save JPEG, not say TIFF?

I discovered that PS CS 3 and an older ELEMENTS were still installed. I eliminated them and so far, PS CS 5 seems to be working properly. I am able to save all file formats. Keeping fingers crossed that the problem has been solved.

Recently I have downloaded images off this site that had the jpeg extension assigned to them. Fine under win98 but when running photoshop 6.01 those files become invisible even though they show in the folder they won't show in the photoshop open file window??? Saving jpg

            Hi there,

I use PhotoShop CS3 and usually work with 100mb, 16 bit RGB scanned files, saved as tif. I'm also using XP Pro, sp3.

I want to create some canvas prints for Christmas gifts and the web based printers need 8bit, sRGB, jpg files. No problems there. Assign a new...

"File is locked..." errors when trying "File Save As..." in PS7
            by Shooter
I'm having a bad problem with getting a "File is locked" error at least 50% of the time when I try to do a File/Save As operation in PS7. This is almost always while generating a new file, so there is no duplicate file name in the directory that I'm saving the image in. When I retry the...

Unable to save file as jpeg? Totally baffled
            by Carol Heath
            Hi everyone.

I am hoping that someone can offer some suggestions. I have finished a restoration and, as always, I have created a lower res, watermarked copy to email to my client for approval. For some reason however, Photoshop (CS2) will not allow me to save the file as a jpeg. The...
