    Windows Xp
I have recently purchased The Hidden Power of Photo Elements 2 and have installed the CD. I'm having problems accessing the tools. I checked and they are installed in the Photo elements directory in all the correct places. It does however not show up on the How To. If I browse the Html Palettes folder, then recipes I can see hiddenpowers.html. If I click and open it will display the hidden powers menu, but it will not allow me to open the file when I click on book. When I try to open the file using Adope Photo elements it errs and says it can't open because it isn't the right type of file. I've tried everything, but I have not been able to access the tools from photo elements.

I'm running windows xp using a compaq presario. Help! Thanks!

    Juanita

    I'm not following you 100%.

First, the tools run on XP just fine. I use them every day on my PC. That doesn't solve your installation problem...

You should not be trying to open the files that were installed inside or outside of elements. Hidden Power becomes PART of Elements after it is installed and all you have to do is open the program (Photoshop Elements). It should appear in the How-To window, and should look as it does in the last page of the color section.

I am not sure what you mean by "when I click on book".

Are you looking for the tools in the How-To menu?

        "B]I'm not following you 100%."

        Sorry for the confusion.

"First, the tools run on XP just fine. I use them every day on my PC. That doesn't solve your installation problem..."

The problem is that Hidden Power is not becoming a PART of Elements after installation and does not appear in the How-To window. Though when I explore the Elements directory to see if Hidden Power was installed in the correct folders everything seems to be there.

What I meant by "when I click on book" is that when I'm in the html paletes folder and use explore to open hidden power a screen appears with when contains the word book underlined. I select book and the file errs.

"Are you looking for the tools in the How-To menu?"

Hmmm, good question! I don't remember doing that. I was looking for the words "hidden power". Unfortuantely, I'm at work at the moment and can't check, but I will as soon as I get home this afternoon and let you know.

        Thanks for your quick reply

          Juanita,

The installation replaces Elements' ...\Recipes\index.html file with the hidden power one. (The index.html file is the file that Elements shows when you view the "How-To".) If you're still seeing Elements version, perhaps the installation failed to replace the index.html file.

It's a bit of a long shot, but if Elements was running it may have prevented the installation from replacing the index.html file -- was Elements running when you installed the CD?

          Cheers,
          Paul.

"Are you looking for the tools in the How-To menu?"

I looked in the How-To-menu for tools, but there aren't any.

              Paul and Richard,

I now have hidden powers in the How-To-menu. Thank you so much for your help. Paul, I checked the index.html file it had been updated.

I did a search on photo elements and found a folder with an old version of what was the orginial photo elements software. I removed photoshop elements2 and all its files. I removed the photo element folder. Turned off my virus program. Rebooted and re-installed Photoshop Elements 2 and the Hidden Power. This seemed to do the trick.

Again thank you for your help.

              Juanita

Glad you could get up and running. Very hard to diagnose that sort of thing when I'm not right over your shoulder!
