Where will I find instruction on using the new tools, specifically Highlight and Shadow Masking?

    Hi Bob,

Sorry we had to direct you over here but Adobe don't seem to like references to Richard's Book or Tools on their forum ...

In the original HPA folder you downloaded you will find another folder HPA3mac (or HPA3PC?) inside that there is a file HPAreadmedo.rtf. ..... I hope

The instructions are right at the bottom of that.

If you can't find it let me know and I will E Mail you the text ... but in the meantime I have copied the Highlight and Shadow Masking for you:

Shadow Mask Creates a selection of the lightest portions of the image, where the intensity of the selection is in proportion to the darkness of the tone. This is very tricky to do in Elements, but here is simplified to a mouse click. The idea is to mask the shadowed areas from change.

Highlight Mask Creates a selection of the darkest portions of the image, where the intensity of the selection is in proportion to the lightness of the tone. The opposite of a Shadow Mask. This is very tricky to do in Elements, but here is simplified to a mouse click. The idea is to mask the highlight areas from change.

Let me know if you need the rest of it.

        Hi Bob,

You can use Highlight & Shadow Masking if you need to lighten or darken parts of images ... So if you have an area that is in deep shadow you can lighten just that part of the image.

The best way to get more information on how the tools work is to do a Google search for a tutorial ... because the tools are all in the full version of photoshop you should find quite a few tutorials.

Could someone please offer some advice on what to do with this photo. I have been given the task of taking the shadow out of the left hand side and can't for the life of me figure out how to do it without ruining the entire image...

          Shadow detail
          by jbruceb
Richard, it would be great if you were to come up with an action similar to the one in the new Photoshop CS that brings out the detail in shadows and highlights. I haven't seen that one, but I have been playing with ASF's (Kodak) Digital SHO Pro plug-in eval. software, and it is awesome. Could not...

          Quickest way to mask
          by Lynda99
I've been using the magic wand to select for applying a drop shadow. It works fine except when the selection has colors similar to the background. Checking 'contiguous' doesn't help.

Everything else seems sooo time consuming. Is there anything else that is fast?

I just completed the Elements 6.0 free tool set. Please send me an email
and I'll forward the file to you. It contains the tools and installation
instructions. I will be making a complete installer at a later date.
Installation requires copying and deleting several files.
