Folder Challenged

I cannot figure out what is going on with my system. A while back I had someone try to help me resolve a problem with my home network, but he ended up causing me to lose everything on my computer momentarily. He did a system restore, and everything seems to work properly. However, I cannot find the Hidden Power folders anywhere on my computer. I have enabled showing hidden folders, and I still cannot find what I'm looking for. Is there a way to uninstall the tools, or can I just reinstall them?

The thing I don't understand is that I'm able to use the tools. I just cannot find the folders so that I can read the readme files. I really don't think this is a computer literacy problem. I have been working with computers now for over 20 years. But something just isn't right and I don't know how to fix it. Any suggestions to will be greatly appreciated.

In the Photoshop Elements folder, there are several readmes, including Advanced.rtf, HPREADME.txt, readme.rtf, and perhaps readmemac.rtf and readmepc.rtf as well. There should be no need to browse through folders and move stuff around unless you are customizing and this should be spelled out in the advanced.rtf.

Thank you both for responding. I finally found the files that I need to read, and I will work on that today. However, as I recall from last time, my feeble mind had a difficult time sorting out the instructions. But I will see what I can do. Thanks again.

What are you trying to do? I didn't find anything of value in the readme files.

I beg to differ. there is quite a lot of value in the readme files, else I'd have left them off entirely. Without the advanced.rtf file, I would be surprised if many people would have a clue as to how to add their own actions.

I would, on the other hand, be glad to discuss and fill in more 'useless' information.

I apologize for even bringing this topic up. After I purchased Photoshop Elements, I acquired Photoshop 7.0. I thought I liked Photoshop Elements better, but in reality it just isn't worth the bother when I have 7.0 working. One thing I have learned about readme files is that they are perfectly clear to the person who wrote them, but not necessarily to other people. This is not a criticism of you Richard, it is simply a statement of fact.

The problem of audience is certainly that not everyone is me, but also that everyone comes to instructions with differing expectations. I do try to make the information I provide useful to a broad audience, but it becomes impossible to cover everyone. One comes hoping that the instructions will take them from pressing the start button on the computer in exacting step-by-steps, and another comes and is insulted by the gall of such hand holding. I guess it might be that there could be a solution in writing for each and every level of user and distribute such works separately, but then you have the odd situation in which the reader then needs to define themselves. Many an optimistic person will see him/herself as an advanced user of computers when they have little experience, and the pessimist or perfectionist perhaps would see him or herself as a beginner, and the problem is born anew as the wrong texts are looked at by the wrong users. Atop that, you have the consideration of the publisher, who will never agree to such a venture as it would cut into the interest of profit. All I can do is provide an organized dispensation of information that I feel is imperative and hope that the numbered steps are not too much to follow. It is times like these when I question my judgement at putting any time at all into supporting free tools. I spent all the time that it was worth to me -- more than that considering the return -- and perhaps that was not enough...yet I get nothing for it. Well, not to say nothing, there is always the criticism...Which I am actually grateful for when it is productive.

I'd be glad to know of information someone might need to make this easier for them...that is beyond "do it for me". I never said it was all easy to do and that thinking wasn't required -- most things that are worthwhile aren't necessarily easy. On the other hand, I'd be glad to answer any specific questions. THAT is why i make myself available -- I can't be everything to everyone's needs in print, but thought I might be better able to answer personal questions personally. However, if the questions are too difficult to ask, I'll never see a way to the answer.

Is certainly was not my intention to get you so agitated. I'm not criticizing your book. I use it daily and I consider it an excellent resource. Apparently, you didn't read my previous message. I don't need to bother with learning how to import actions into Photoshop Elements. When I need to run an action I can use Photoshop. I just don't want to bother with this issue anymore. It is not important to me any more. If I could I would delete the entire thread. And if you feel that it's appropriate, go ahead and delete it yourself. I had hoped this would be a friendly forum, but apparently that is not the case.

Was just trying to answer your post...did not at all mean to rub the wrong way. Perhaps my attempt at humor was too wry? All I meant was that I read my own writing and know what it says. I run into the problem of reaching audience daily both at work and at work (I have a home, but it doubles as the place I write).

There's really nothing bad here--its a topic that strays a little. I don't want people running from a problem because I didn't provide what they needed. That's my point. I'm glad to fill in information. Apparently you have another solution, and that's fine too.
