just a thought, but may prevent future confusion. Adding the words "not your site handle" (or something equivalent) in the instructions on renaming images would make it really clear. Until registering, where it asks for first...
I thought it looked rather flat. On the closeup the edges are really sharp between the background and the people. Usually there is some gradiation present (what Adobe calls anti-aliasing) at an edge like that. Also I think you are right about your Dad's head....
Sketchy action, faded, flattened - smart blur, and just a tad of crosshatch to get rid of the original horizontal lines. Hue/sat to taste - serve warm!...

Smart blurred and desaturated. Poster edges. Cut out the background obviously. Tried color here and there but ended up with B/W. Oh - and anisotripic diffuse too. ...
