If you can exaggerate or "enhance" the colour in the colour scan, so that those areas become more "tinted" maybe to blue you can then use "convert to black and white" to help balance things out.

More of a colour correction exercise than a restoration per say... good job none the less. Species of pine tree tend to have a bluish tint to them rather than a grass green. With the ground being so parched i doubt if all the greenery would be lush one colour...

"2nd guy" try a soft brush set to darken shadows at 1% and dab in a few times. or midtones or highlights whichever gets the desired effect.
