    Re: Freelance rates.

Freelance rates for onsite within an ad agency, I'd say 800 euros a day, but don't know if you want to adjust that for dollars, so around 1000 US.

If you want a yearly rate, you obivously go discounted. So Be nice and end up around 120.000.

Are you a recording artist and or a DJ? No?

A good place to start is the book Masking and Selections by Katrin Eisman, it is OLD, but what she teaches is still true....

    Re: Herb Ritts style help

I get the sense from this thread that you really want the answer to this style, but haven't really learned Photoshop yet. Masking is the first thing any retoucher/photoshop user should learn.

Alternatively if you right click on Surface Blur in...

  • Re: How do you handle problematic clients?

The answer is always the same. If you want to match that reference, with this input, it is going to take a long time. About 3 days per image. Money softens the blow of them being idiots. Although lately I've been getting more and more completely...

Re: Product Retouching & False Advertising

I don't get paid for my intense moral compass regarding the realness of images. I always try to keep it as photographic as possible, but if the person paying my bill wants hyper-real, or even completely unlike the actual product? That's...

    Re: Your first paying gig

First image that I was paid for was a picture of a Dutch football (or soccer for the Yanks) player for an adidas book. Took 2 days. Looking at it now, it should've taken about 45 minutes.

  • Re: How can I be a devoted retoucher and have a gf

When learning the ropes, you put in the hours. Any good partner understands this.
When you're doing ok and making money, you learn to say "it is now the end of the working day, I am going home". You have to. Also after...

  • Re: Fashion Lookbook: What needs to be done?

make sure the garments fit. Take out any clips/pins. When anyone is wearing pants fix the bunching on the bottom. Clean 1 background and use that for all images. Quicker than cleaning it over and over as it gets dirtier as the day goes on....

    Re: Intuos Pro Large issues

Quick tip: the new Intuos by default adds settings for Photoshop. So you turn everything off and it's all still on. Open Photoshop then go to Wacom Settings and there should be a tab for Photoshop settings (under Applications, see Doug's screenshot). Turn it...

    Re: This "haze" effect...

No offense, but when you look at the first image, and you try counter 'the haze', it literally is 1 move in a curve. That makes me think that the effect was created doing the opposite of that.... You can be pedantic about it and say "that's...

    Re: Juicy Retouching Critique!!

I'd say the following points could use some attention:

    - the cut of the orange is too messy, clean it up.
    - There's a weird highlight at the bottom of the mouth that you don't need
    - the shape of the lips is still slightly jagged...

  • Re: Another how did they do it post.

there's no blacks in the images, so everything looks hazy. lift the black point in a curves adjustment layer, or slide it over in levels, as mentioned above. Not so difficult.

  • Re: New Skin Retouching Action - Opinions?

Looks like you let loose an action that destroys all the detail in the skin on these images. If that's what you wanted to achieve, then congrats! Personally I don't think that you can replace retouching with an action, but maybe I'm wrong.
