Re: Thumbnail Creation
I'm going to go try it, too, and I'm also curious about the renaming.

Re: Thumbnail Creation
After reading a thread on here about getting a CS4 trial to download using Firefox instead of Explorer, I successfully got it installed.
I just compared the pixels on the Irfanview thumbnail to the CS4 Bicubic Sharp thumbnails I did last night, and...

Thumbnail Creation
I'm not happy with my thumbnails. I have PS 7, so I have no bicubic sharp/smooth, etc. I've been reducing the image size in increments, which is a huge pain and doesn't work all that well. My thumbnails are still ugly.
Can someone suggest a technique, or perhaps a software, to enable...

Re: Storage of old photos
I have images dating from the mid-1800's. I've had them well-stored, but I hadn't really thought of doing specific storage, or specific pH, for different types. Thanks for the tip, some are really excellent and I'd hate to lose them.
I worked at...

Storage of old photos
I need to buy new acid free boxes and envelopes for old family photos.
Should I buy the mildly alkaline type? It makes sense to put them in an alkaline environment, but I thought I'd get some expert opinions.
Also, I already have opaque Mylar large envelopes (silver colored)....

Re: Legs nightmare.
I *almost* never use blur, either, and I wouldn't use blur anywhere else on the body, but on the big areas on the legs, it seems to work OK. Everybody hates blur because they don't know when to stop.

Re: Resizing a PSD-They're lossy!
AHA!
OK, I can easily start with a bigger image, they are huge files.
I think I know what happened now. I picked up some files to re-do. I was unconcerned with whether hey'd been resized previously, since I've never seen...Last edited by Lynda99; 04-05-2008, 03:41 PM.

Re: Resizing a PSD-They're lossy!
No 'save for web" in my ImageReady.
I guess I'm over-thinking this. I just want to be able to retouch and resize in a non-lossy format.

Re: Legs nightmare.
I'm not the pro you're looking for, but have you tried using blur? It's sooo fast. I use blur and a tiny bit of final cleanup with 10-15% opacity brush.

Re: Resizing a PSD-They're lossy!
Yes, I save as a different file name. I upsample again because I discard many of the changes before closing. In other words, I retouch the larger photo. Then I sharpen more, add more contrast, etc, for the little pics, (before reducing, of course) since...Last edited by Lynda99; 04-05-2008, 12:01 AM.

Re: Resizing a PSD-They're lossy!
I'm using PS 7.
I've never had this happen before. It's weird. Could it be some kind of memory problem on my computer?

Re: Resizing a PSD-They're lossy!
Image size is ~177x433. I'm resizing to half that to do my thumbnails, then back up to the original size. I lose on the way down AND up.
This is a function I've done many times before with no problem.

Resizing a PSD-They're lossy!
While resizing PSD files, they're degrading like JPEG's. I've always worked with PSD's with no ill effects.
Yes, I flattened the images before resizing.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Quickest way to mask
Thanks to these posts, the lightbulb finally went on in my head about layers.

Re: Quickest way to mask
Swampy, that worked well.
Duwayne, my problem with "painting' on these images is that there are wires, and I don't have an artpad, or the skill to paint them with my mouse. I kept ending up with squiggles.
I had about 100 images...
