  • Doug,

The alternative to thumbnails is guessing which link, clicking it, then waiting for it to load, finding out you guessed wrong, then guessing again. I'd be happy to wait for thumbnails to download so I can know where I'm going when I click on a link.

  • Thumbnails on list of challenge submissions?

I've looked at all or almost all of the challenge submissions by now. I find it very interesting to see the results and read the notes by the artist. I find myself going back several times now to look/read again certain submissions.

The tintype challenge was especially interesting to...

  • Wonderful job Jeanie.

Thought. I'm wondering about the empty triangle in the lower right. I see babies with missing parts there. If it were me I would try filling in the triangle by copying parts from other babies. Just a thought.

  • Doug, good idea. I uploaded my BEFORE/AFTER images and replaced the links to my homepage with links to the attachments. Is this what you had in mind?

Is it OK to link to attachments the way I did? I mean are they guaranteed not to change? If so, I can pull my "if this link doesn't...

  • See Lilla's AFTER image here...

I have attached my AFTER image to this post. I attached my BEFORE image in a separate/previous post. This assures that others can view my image even if my home page links should change. I originally used links to my home page.

Ed, I'm so glad that you like my album page concept and are inspired to do something similar with your old photos!

I started out just restoring the images and that was great. Then I went to developing 8.5x11 in. album pages with one or more restored photos plus storyline, and family...

  • Here's my improved image based upon your feedback...

I think I'm finished with it now. I've encorporated all the suggestions made in the group, and some of my own, and I'm pretty well pleased with it at this point.

    - I worked on the skin tones - big improvement there....

For me it's about telling our family history

For me, restoration is an important part of preserving and telling our family history for future generations. My vision is to tell our history by combining imagery and storyline. I've included a link to one example at the bottom of this post....

Very impressive work on coloring. It looks 100% natural.
And what a nice way to honor your father!

  • Doug, I'm glad you said that because I don't like that either. I'll do some work there. Anything else, please let me know...

  • There, there, don't cry Paulette . I did not take offense at your suggestions. You saw a different picture opportunity than I did that's all. Your suggestions were well intended and are ones that I can learn from, thank you for sharing them with me.

    I'm glad that you...

  • Ed,

I agree with you, her skin coloring should be more like his and her right arm (and legs) should be lighter. I'll work on that.

About the tree stump? The photo we have is a copy of a copy sort of thing and the detail is hard to make out there. I couldn't decide it was...

  • Paulette,

Thank you for the detailed comments. I will experiment with the methods you suggest as I want to learn how to do the realistic renditions that I see submitted in the challenges too.

The soft colors and realistic style you describe sounds quite nice. The result...

  • DJ, thank you so much for those words of appreciation.

This is the first photo that I was drawn to add color to. And from the start it was the vivid colors that I visualized.

I'm glad you like it "as is". I'm happy with it "as is" too, although I'm...
