If you do happen to ask him, please post what you find out here. It would be a good learning experience to us.

    Re: Looking for this Style

JC- His images look like the product of medium format cameras, which accounts for the amazing detail. Also, I think in some, but not all, of the shots he does use HDR, but in a minimal way. He is pushing mid tone contrast, but I'll bet most of what you're seeing...

Re: Need help with jewelry shots

dcb- The shot is decent enough, but there ain't no jewelry photography without post production. It's just not going to happen.
Once you silo the ring with a path/mask, you can do anything, including dropping out the bkg while holding the reflection...

  • Re: Photoshop questions for Steve Koshlap ring sho

When you play with grounding shadows, you will "know it when you got it". You have an advantage as a photographer. You can observe how shadows act when you light a scene, then all you have to do is figure out how to duplicate...

  • Re: PS questions on the Steve Koshlap ring tutoria

    Anne-
You are welcome! The shadows look great as they are, but there's something that you can try to really make them pop:
Make another new layer above your shadow layer and set it to multiply. Make a smaller, less hard brush...

    Evian-
I'll try to answer your questions.
1)- it sounds as though you just need to invert the selection, but I have a feeling that you may be making a "shape" path, instead of a regular path. Make sure you are...

  • Re: RetouchPRO LIVE "Jewelry Lighting" with Jim La

Great tip on using the pano composite feature to load all the shots into a layer stack in Photoshop! I'll be using that one!

  • Re: large quantity of retouching pricing and times

No matter how you look at it, it comes down to what you need to charge per hour of your time, and how many products you can shoot, retouch, color correct, file manage/upload/archive per hour.
I'd suggest doing a test. It will give...

  • Re: RetouchPRO LIVE "$10 Ring" with Steve Koshlap

Cruel.frames- I apologize for not delivering to your expectations! For me, the most challenging aspect of presenting a show like this is the very, very wide range of experience levels in the audience. I really have no...

    Re: Job Interview, Please Help!?

    justin-
You can, and should, ask them if you will be editing in RGB color space for web use, or CMYK if the images are going to be printed. You can say that you prefer to edit in RGB, then convert to the printer's preferred CMYK profile when you're...

    2mitts-
As a personal preference, I think vertical/portraits work best in a printed book. To combine them would mean showing the landscapes at a reduced size, two page spreads, or 90 degrees in the book.
I guess it also depends on the work you do. So...

Re: Contracts, proofing, & file deliver

I come from a background in color prepress, and I always felt that we were in a sense, selling the hard proof- because that represented the image as it would print. More and more, hard copy proofs aren't even mentioned, which is really good...

Doug, I agree that LinkedIn is about generating contacts, but I also feel those contacts can lead to new business. I also use the google tracking thing, and I can see that when I post comments in various Linkedin group discussions, my web site hits will rise on that...
